Time series of observations of different layers of the solar atmophere are necessary
to obtain a 3-dimensional picture of related and partly fast varying phenomena.
Several telescopes observe the Sun through filters at different optical wavelengths.
Layers like the photosphere and the chromosphere can be observed and give us information about the spacial
composition and their evolution.
Because of the observing conditions the observatory designed its instruments to obtain full disk
images of the Sun. Whenever the weather permits the Sun is kept under surveillance.
Higher spacial resolution of interesting areas are acquired by cooperation with other research facilities
like » Hvar Observatory. This observatory operates with similar
equipment in the same spectral bands.
To get information about the solar corona one needs a complete different technical equipment respectively
it is only possible from space. Therefore international cooperations with radio-astronomical
observatories like » Trieste and
» Potsdam were established. Also data from research satellites » SOHO
and » RHESSI are used.
In the field of atmospheric physics direct and scattered solar irradiation from UV to IR is measured permanently.
The relation of intensity and the course of the measurements during the day allows to
derive distribution and occurance of trace gases (like ozone, SO2...), particles and aerosols.
The classical meteorological elements like temperature, humidity, sunshine duration and precipitation are also
measured and archived.
